Fantasy Sports From The Eyes Of A Fan

You are old. You’re knees go bad or wrinkles pop up. You’re gaining weight. And most importantly, you’re a nerd. These are the signs of somebody who is absolutely hook up with Fantasy Sports. Just Kidding!!

This is just the common misconception about Fantasy sports player. But I assure you that I am a normal looking individual without any of that signs but I have been playing fantasy sports. I've been an official fantasy player for the last three years and I don't see myself giving it up soon. I just love it. Before all these loving, I was against the concept of playing fantasy sports for years. I always ignored those who ask me to participate and always questioned them. "Why would I fantasize about sports?" and "Why would I need fantasy sports when I can watch the real ones?" But then I realize the fun of playing fantasy sports, managing your dream team and of course winning the championship.

Fantasy sports are basically individual teams made up of real players from various sports. Each participant in the league manages his/her team. In hockey, for example, every NHL player is available for use. The same with the other sports. It makes no difference which actual teams the players are with in real life. Statistics, scores, standings, and everything else is based on each player's performance in the real-life games. Fantasy sports managers obviously strive to get the strongest-performing players on their lineups.

Fantasy baseball is my favorite fantasy sports (Fantasy Basketball comes close in second). The intense of fantasy baseball is more like the real thing. I always can play it at Fantasy Factor because here there are no long term season commitment unlike other Fantasy sports site. Every week or every day you’ll get to win prizes and cash. In addition with this, the site’s interface is totally impressive and is easy to use.

I've spent so much time checking on different players that I can answer the toughest questions. Who do I need to keep on the bench during road games? Who can hit lefties? The difference between Mark Sweeney and Mike Sweeney? All of this I already know. I'm not just playing fantasy sports. I'm winning leagues here. One of my baseball teams (yes, I was in more than one baseball league) won first place last year. After going through all the stats, making trades and picking up players through free agency, my team came in first place out of 12 teams. Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies was my stud player.

And my big reward? A little cash prize (depends though on how much did you invest to put in your team), a small trophy that appeared on my fantasy home page and the extra bragging rights to my other fantasy sports player friends.

Fantasy Sports – The Key for Reviving Sports

There are millions of people all over the world that enjoy sports, counting myself in of course. I love watching all kinds of sports, playing some sports and lastly, playing fantasy sports. Whether you love it or not, call it competitive game or just a waste time, you can’t deny that fantasy sports had become one huge market and had taken the world by storm. According to a 2008 research survey by Ipsos, there are nearly 29.9 million Americans is already hook up on fantasy sports and the total market impact of fantasy sports is just under $4.5 billion.

I knew about fantasy sports just a few years ago. At first I was just all eyes and cheering for the fantasy team of my friends, but then I was envious and before I knew it, I have my own powerful fantasy team and I had been an avid fan ever since. Unlike some fantasy sports player, I do not play big money. I make it sure that the money I will spend here is just a part of my savings or a little extra on my money. Of course I win some little cash here too from time to time.

If it is not because of Fantasy Sports, I would have given up on sports for a long time now. In some point of my sports life, I was busy at work to play any sports at all, and then I was so sick of all the drama that surrounded professional sports and athletes. Every time I turned the TV on I would hear about a player holding out for more money on an already over-inflated million dollar contract or a player with a case of abuse, physical injury or harassment or a player being famous on their love affairs. The love of the game was being overtaken by the love of money and fame, and I was totally getting sick of it.

I have heard similar stories from many of my friends and colleagues as well. It seems that most people are generally in stark opposition to the way in which professional athletes have turned a game into nothing more than a business. I know many people that have stopped watching professional sports altogether because of it.

I know other people who would not have much to do with professional sports if it were not for fantasy sports. I am sure that my experience is not all that uncommon either. It seems to me that a fantasy sport has been the greatest thing to happen to professional sports in quite some time. Playing fantasy sports allows a person to feel as if they're actually involved in the dynamics of a game, even if it is only online. It brings out a sense of commitment and a desire to watch sports like nothing else can so that you can research the best players for your team.

Fantasy sport has forever changed the future of sports for the better. It has provided an injection of much needed enthusiasm (not to mention money) that was beginning to wane a few years back. It has served to revitalize the sports industry. And if I’m wrong about this, then at least it had revived my passion on sports.

Fantasy NFL #1: Jamaal Charles from the Kansas City Chiefs. Okay, some of you reading this may be frustrated with this guy right here so I suggest you breathe in and breathe out so we can get this tip in your system already. You might be asking us, Jamaal Charles? Why is he on my pick? He was ranked as the second best player in the NFL in rushing yards in 2011! Why is he fifth? Well, Jamaal Charles may be very good in rushing yards and in fact, we counted. It is 1000 + 467 = 1467 rushing yards and yes, he is ranked second in the NFL last year but here is the reason why he is not at the top of my list. First, there is his five rushing touchdowns which ranked 25th in the league. Another player, Gore, has 1,915 touchdown and to me that is a more phenomenal and impressive number. Personally, Charles is a bit slow to my preference. The 8 touchdowns he had, well, those were just in weeks 1 to 14. Where is the consistency? From a fantasy point of view, Jamaal may be a great player but not the top 1. Besides, if you were his owner in last year’s games, you probably would not make it to the playoffs. I believe Charles will be taken in the first few rounds of your draft. He is a superstar and he will improve based on his 2010 performance.

Fantasy NFL #2: You should also check out San Francisco 49ers player Frank Gore. We all know Gore and we know him as that amazing stud that dominated 12 games last year. His numbers average a total of 110 total yards per contest. That’s just pretty amazing. As a fantasy football team owner, I never owned Frank Gore as part of my team, not even in one single fantasy league, but I was still disappointed to see that I didn't have him on my team. This is perhaps (and arguments are welcome) Gore’s best career season. Although, I am frustrated that I didn’t see him coming and did not draft him when I got the chance, but I am still not a huge Gore fan when it comes to being a fantasy player. I think Gore is good, but the guy always comes out as drafted on the first 6 rounds. And to me that is great, but not something which I think deserves that much fanatic devotion.

Weekly Fantasy Football League: Rookie Busts for 2010

As important as the Fantasy Draft is, it needs to be treated way differently than the actual NFL Draft. Owners need to make selections not based on how good a rookie player might eventually be, but rather on the likelihood that the selected player will succeed in the following season. This means a variety of different factors must be taken into account, including the team’s system, the player’s ability to contribute right away, and the team’s competition at that position.

Considering that many of the biggest impact players come from latter rounds, position in the previous spring’s draft can be overemphasized, as can a player’s college production and reputation. In short, there are a lot of variables and it’s easy to go wrong. Here are some players to be wary of taking, especially initially.

Sam Bradford, Quarterback, St. Louis Rams- Drafting Bradford looks like a lose-lose proposition. He has not been officially given the starting spot yet but it may be a bad thing if he were. As good as Bradford is, the Rams are a moribund franchise trying to find their way and won’t be able to offer Bradford much help in terms of personnel. As talented as he is, it would be difficult to deal with all the nuances of becoming a starting quarterback in the NFL in addition to having a sub-par offensive line. The Rams have a standout running back in Steven Jackson but no considerable vertical threats to speak of; Donnie Avery just doesn’t seem capable of being a number one option. Bradford should eventually be a great player in the NFL but will need at least a year to adjust to the talent deficiency around him. If you’re looking at drafting him, make sure it’s so he can be your backup.

Tim Tebow, Quarterback, Denver Broncos- As great as Tebow was in college, he faces a steep learning curve in the NFL. I personally believe his outstanding work ethic and great natural talent will result in a productive career but it will take a while to get there. Having played in the spread option offense at Florida, Tebow will need to adjust to taking snaps under center and continue retooling his footwork and throwing motion. Another reason to avoid drafting Tebow until late is that his playing time is still a major wild card. The Broncos have great depth at the position with Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn and although Tebow is the quarterback of the future, it’s uncertain when the Tebow Era will begin in Denver. The only reason to draft Tebow late in a fantasy draft is that his ability as a power runner may get him carries in the red zone and on third and short. It’s important for fantasy owners to not get too caught up in his college exploits.

C.J. Spiller, Running Back, Buffalo Bills- Although Spiller will have some impact as a rookie, ignore all those sites that say he’s one of the top two rookie fantasy football options. Spiller will be playing for a team in Buffalo that is very limited. None of their potential quarterbacks have done much at the NFL level and there is a definite worry that too much responsibility will be placed on Spiller in his rookie year. He is indeed a tremendous talent with game-breaking skills but is undersized for a running back and capable of getting hurt if Buffalo doesn’t pace him. It is yet to be seen what role Marshawn Lynch will have with the team but it would be good for Spiller if they share carries, at least initially. That way, Spiller can still contribute as a receiver and punt returner without having to take the punishment that 25 carries a game brings.

Demaryius Thomas, Wide Receiver, Denver Broncos- This is another player whose long-term prospects are much better than those in the short-term. He is very talented but raw after playing for a college team that rarely threw the football. With Brandon Marshall gone, there may be too much pressure to reach his full potential right away. It will also be difficult to develop a rapport with his quarterback because it’s still unknown who Denver’s starter will be this year. With the uncertainty at wide receiver and quarterback, Denver may rely on their running back trio of Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter, and JJ Arrington and in turn, throw the ball much less.
